Update: Shakespeare's Globe Theatre has confirmed that it has closed to the public and all performances have been cancelled until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Not long after announcing casting details for its new production of Romeo and Juliet, the iconic venue made the decision following the UK Government and Society of London Theatre's official guidance.

Michelle Terry, Artistic Director of Shakespeare's Globe, said: "As you can imagine, this has been one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make, but a responsible and necessary one. Crucially, we have made this decision now in order that we can open our doors and our arms as wide as possible when the time is right.

"Whilst our doors are closed, our hearts and mind and imaginations are very much open and needed now more than ever. Right now, we are speaking with our artists far and wide to create ways to share stories and stay connected with you. And as importantly, ways for you to stay connected with us.

"We will be in touch soon with more information but until then, please stay well and safe. And here's to the future as we all find our way to a very brave new world."

Original story: If you fancy going to the theatre over the next few months, how about going to see Shakespeare's classic Romeo & Juliet featuring one of the stars of the Harry Potter movies?

A production of the classic play will be running at Shakespeare's Globe from April 14 to July 12, and tickets are on sale now.

Alfred Enoch, who played Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter series will take on the role of Romeo. He recently appeared in Trust Me on the BBC, taking over from Jodie Whittaker, and popped up on How to Get Away with Murder. On stage, he starred in King Lear and Coriolanus, among other things.

Elsewhere, Lady Capulet will be played by Beth Cordingly (EastEnders, The Bill), Mercutio will be played by Adam Gillen (Benidorm), Lady Capulet will be played by Clara Indrani (Marcella), Prince will be played by Rebecca Root (Last Christmas, The Danish Girl), while theatre star Rebekah Murrell will play Juliet.

This doesn't look like it will be standard production either, will the synopsis teasing the exploration of 'different choices' that could lead to the two star-crossed lovers not tragically dying (just days after they met, might we add).

Interestingly, for the week beginning April 22, there will only be matinee performances that use less lighting to coincide with Earth Day.

The best thing is, tickets only start at £8, so you won't have to worry about breaking the bank either.

This isn't the only star-filled theatrical performance taking place, as Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke is starring in the Anton Chekhov classic The Seagull, while X-Men: Dark Phoenix's Jessica Chastain is in Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House. You can find out more about that here.
