Amy Schumer has become the first woman to enter the Forbes list of the highest-paid comedians in the world.

She was the fourth highest-paid in 2016 with $17 million (£13.1 million), earning her fortune from touring, her TV show Inside Amy Schumer, as well as an $18 million book deal.

Although it's a historic moment, Forbes' Associate Producer Madeline Berg said there are still barriers for women in comedy.

"Unfortunately, the world of comedy seems to still be stuck on the stereotype that 'women aren't funny', making it difficult for women to break into the world of stand-up and be taken seriously," she told The Independent.

"Luckily, Schumer, along with other contemporary female comics, are paving the way."

Kevin Hart topped the annual list, dethroning Jerry Seinfeld for the first time in a decade to second place and earning $87.5 million (£67.4 million).

Seinfeld earned $43.5 million (£33.5 million), while John Bishop was the only Brit to make the list at 10 with $7 million (£5.4 million) earned over the last year. Others in the list include Jeff Dunham, Terry Fator and Dave Chapelle.

Schumer is currently on a massive world tour, and recently shut down a sexist heckler at a show in Stockholm, after he shouted: "Get your tits out."

When she learnt that he worked in sales, the comedian replied: "Sales - how's that working out? Is it going well? Because we're not buying it?"

He was later rightly thrown out of the show, much to the delight of everyone else.
