Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has had the same stuntman for 16 years: Tanoai Reed, who also happens to be his cousin. To show his appreciation for Reed's years of work, Johnson surprised him with a new truck — and it was all caught on tape.
The Fast and Furious star tricked Reed into thinking they were filming a behind-the-scenes video, since he had just returned from an on-set injury. After singing his praises, Johnson revealed the custom black pickup truck, and Reed was visibly moved.
"[Reed] has broken multiple bones, severed tendons, torn ligaments, and just been an overall dominating bad ass," Johnson wrote on Instagram. "All done with one goal in mind – deliver the best movie possible in the world."
"Blessed beyond belief," Reed added in his own post.
Reed has worked as Johnson's stunt double since The Scorpion King, the film that made The Rock a genuine movie star. When they first met on the set, Johnson had no idea they were related.
Since then, they have worked on 24 movies together, and Reed has been nominated for the World Stunt Awards 10 times, winning on three occasions.
What to Read Next
"DJ gives me credit more than any other actor gives his stunt man," Reed told Mel Magazine. "He's always been like, 'When it comes to the gnarly stuff, things where I can get hurt, my cousin Tanoai does it all'. I'll be reading a random article about a movie and bang — my name's in there. He's that kind of guy."
