The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge enjoyed a family day out at a polo game this weekend.

But Prince George's choice of toy infuriated some fans, after the 4-year-old was pictured holding a toy gun.

While Prince William was playing polo, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton sat with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and other children.

George was pictured on the floor pointing the gun, thought to be a water pistol, at his friends who had the same toy. He was also snapped holding the fake weapon to his mother's chin.

However, some fans took to Twitter to announce their outrage, especially over the media coverage of the photos.

Many thought it was unfair that the family snaps were called "heart-warming" by the media, just days after England player Raheem Sterling was slammed for having a gun tattooed down his leg.

The striker explained that the inking was in honour of his father who was shot dead in Jamaica when he was just 2 years old.

He called it a "promise to myself I would never touch a gun in my lifetime".

Piers Morgan responded to his reasoning, saying: "So you think it's perfectly OK for an England football star to tattoo a large assault rifle onto his leg just before a World Cup, where it will be seen by billions of people? I find THAT pretty weird & sad, regardless of his explanation."

The Good Morning Britain host was also in mischievous form when he shared the pictures of Prince George on his Twitter page, jokingly calling them "the Sterling effect".

Although others were more upset there was any backlash at all.

Princess Charlotte previously stole the show at the Trooping the Colour at the weekend when she fell over watching the celebrations.

The Duchess of Cambridge came to the rescue when she scooped her crying daughter up and comforted her after she hit her face.
