Girls actress Lena Dunham and music producer Jack Antonoff have split after five years together, their reps have confirmed to PEOPLE.

The pair first got together following a blind date in 2012, and sources at E! say they broke up amicably in December 2017 after growing apart, with an insider adding that they "want the best for each other no matter what".

Lena seemingly referenced the split on Instagram today (January 9), posting the words: "Starting over is the beautiful moment where you choose herself."

Dunham and Antonoff haven't been spotted together in public since a Grammys pre-party (pictured below) in January 2017, though the actress did pen an essay about her then-boyfriend for Variety in October 2017.

One part read: "It's safe to say that before Jack my life was full of far fewer sights. He showed me the importance of making political statements using your public platform. He showed me the joy of collaboration."

She also shared a couple of Instagram posts in the same month to celebrate their five and a half year anniversary, writing in one: "Here is the picture that my ❤️ @americaferrera insisted on taking so we'd have evidence that this is how we dressed for a nice dinner.

"Our 5.5 year anniversary was yesterday. Still working hard to impress him in surprising ways. PS we independently dressed entirely in merch."

In a second post, shared weeks before, she wrote: "Hey @jackantonoff remember your weird depression beard? Remember how depressed it made ME? Your vibe was very 'just divorced my childhood sweetheart, getting into cigars and stuff'.

"So glad that phase is behind us. So glad we've been together long enough to have phases. I miss you, come home soon."
