The Mr Men and Little Miss franchise may be 45 years old, but it's just introduced a thoroughly modern new character into its fold.
The famous fictional family is growing as the 39th Little Miss character has been unveiled – and she's on a feminist mission. Meet Little Miss Inventor...
It's hoped the female inventor will inspire girls to pursue interests and careers in STEM subjects, which are notoriously male-dominated. Fittingly, the book featuring Little Miss Inventor will hit shelves on International Women's Day (March 8) 2018.
"Her brain is full of ideas, which she turns into extraordinary inventions in a shed at the bottom of her garden," reads the blurb for the new book, according to Stylist.
"As well as inventing things for herself, she also invents things for her friends, whether it's a chatter-natter hat for Little Miss Chatterbox or a back-pack-snack-attack fridge for Mr. Greedy.
"But her greatest challenge yet has her stumped, what an earth could she invent for Mr. Rude?!"
What to Read Next
Speaking about the new character, Adam Hargreaves, who now continues in his father Roger's footsteps creating the books, told Stylist: "I always enjoy creating a brand new character for the series and it was fun coming up with lots of crazy inventions for Little Miss Inventor's home and silly ones for all her friends.
"It's also been nice to write a story that promotes a positive role model and to challenge a stereotype, if only in a small way."
We think Little Miss Inventor will be a brilliant addition to bookshelves the world over when her story is available to shop next March. Let's hope we start to see more fictional characters paving a feminist path for children from now on.
