Demi Lovato has bravely opened up about the difficult road that led to her overcoming her addition struggles.

The 'Sorry Not Sorry' singer recently celebrated the fifth anniversary of her sobriety, which began when she stepped away from the spotlight to seek treatment at the height of her Disney Channel popularity.

On this weekend's edition of The Jonathan Ross Show, Demi speaks openly and honestly about the harrowing events that led up to her decision to enter rehab.

"I went through some tough times and went to treatment for some struggles that I had and now I've come out the other side, and I use my stories to help others and inspire them to get the help they need," she recalled.

"I had family and really close friends and my manager, they all were by my side through everything. I wouldn't be here without them. My fans too, I feel they gave me a reason to live and I'm forever grateful.

"There were a few [interventions from her family and friends] but the final one, everyone was like, 'We are no longer going to leave, we are leaving.' That was the moment when I thought, 'Okay, I really need to get help and get sober'."

Ultimately, Demi pointed to divisions within her own family as the driving force behind her finally addressing her issues with addiction and moving forward with a healthier lifestyle.

"I had hit rock bottom and I just needed to do this for myself," she remembered. "I knew that I had a lot of life ahead of me but one of the main reasons of getting sober was so that I could be around my little sister because my mum and dad [said I couldn't be around her] if I was doing stuff. So I got the help I needed and now I co-own a treatment centre."

Addressing the temptations she still faces, the singer-songwriter admitted: "There are days when you fight temptation for sure but those days get further and further apart.

"I've been sober for five and a half years now and it gets a lot easier. It's so much easier than it was at the beginning and now there are days when I don't even think about it.

"I just don't put myself in certain situations that I know there is going to be a ton of alcohol or possibly drugs there, I just try not to be around them."
