When Lewis Hamilton won the Monaco grand prix on Sunday's (May 29) Formula 1 race, he was cheered on by his team, his fans around the globe... and Justin Bieber.

The 'Sorry' singer was waiting in victory lane for Hamilton, who scored an impressive win at the classic F1 street circuit after fending off Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo.

Bieber was one of the first people to congratulate the reigning driver's champion in parc ferme after his latest win .

And he happened to be in the right place at the right time, because he also got a sip of victory champagne before Hamilton sprayed the rest of the bottle over teammates and photographers, as per motor racing tradition.

The popstar was full of praise for Hamilton's win, writing on Twitter: "Congrats to my brother @LewisHamilton on an amazing victory."

Bieber wasn't the only big name star at this weekend's showpiece F1 event.

Hamilton's win saw him cut the gap in the drivers standings to the championship leader, his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, to 24 points.
