Penny Lancaster has a novel way of making sure Rod Stewart stays out of her way while she deals with the less pleasant part of being a woman.

The 44-year-old model told the Loose Women panel that she has taken to wearing a red cotton bracelet while she's on her period, to "raise the red flag" that her hormones are influencing her mood.

Lancaster said that while she feels she is "too young" to be going through the menopause, there have been moments where she has felt like she has been "taken over by some sort of strange devil".

Lancaster put the snapping down to pre-menstrual syndrome - so to avoid any unnecessary clashes with her husband, the model ties a piece of red cotton round her wrist to send him a message.

"It was just like 'how can I raise that red flag, emergency emergency'," she said.

While Lancaster said she and Stewart have a "very open relationship, [we] discuss everything", she said that she would be open to counselling if it was needed.

"That's the biggest key, is to talk, I think," she said.
