When is a Twitter 'like' not *just* a Twitter 'like'? When it involves two estranged former boyband members, it seems.

Just hours after Louis Tomlinson sent the social media platform into a frenzy with a black-and-white picture of his newborn baby son Freddie, former bandmate Zayn Malik got in on the act by liking the image on a fan's feed.

Currently, the tweet is one of only 14 Zayn has liked since joining Twitter in 2010, so that's a pretty bold step.

User Candle Jenner (@larrystical) was the lucky one whose tweet of Louis and Freddie got the 'like'. Perhaps showing his support on Louis' own Twitter might have been too direct a step for Zayn, after he recently revealed none of his former bandmates have returned his calls.

Of course, One Direction fans responded with their usual restraint (some NSFW language below):

And whether or not Zayn's social media action is indeed an olive branch remains to be seen.

The singer, whose debut single 'Pillowtalk' is due out this week, has just given an interview saying that he was never content as part of One Direction.
