Ahmed's Texas high school called police after discovering the device, which was actually a circuit board and power supply wired to a digital display inside of a metal pencil case. The science pupil was looking forward to showing it to his teachers.
The police decided not to press charges against the teenager, while the hashtag #IStandWithAhmed went viral since his release from custody.
The most famous supporter behind Ahmed was US President Obama, who tweeted: "Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It's what makes America great."

Meanwhile, Facebook's Zuckerberg also sent the 14-year-old a heartwarming message: "Having the skill and ambition to build something cool should lead to applause, not arrest. The future belongs to people like Ahmed.

Ahmed, who was wearing a NASA T-shirt when he was arrested, also received support from many astronauts.
His older sisters set up a Twitter account for him, from which he wrote: "Thank you fellow supporters. We can ban together to stop this racial inequality and prevent this from happening again."
