Cilla Black died of a stroke after falling at her home in Spain, a coroner has confirmed.

The TV presenter and singer was sunbathing at her villa in Estepona when she lost her balance on her balcony, and was knocked unconscious after hitting her head.

She later died of a stroke following the accident, BBC News confirmed.

Her family have been given permission to return her body to the UK for her funeral.

"We are devastated by the sad loss of our mother, but have been deeply touched by all the kind messages of support from her friends, fans, the public and media," said Cilla's sons Robert, Ben and Jack Willis.

"We would like to thank everyone, especially the people of Liverpool. The tributes and condolences have really helped us through these difficult times."
