The actor was accepting his Outstanding Contribution to Theatre award at tonight's ceremony, when he began a performance of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' to close the show.
He was accompanied by a full orchestra, a choir and soul singer Beverly Knight.

Spacey pulled out a harmonica during the song, whipping off his jacket and tie.

The actor was receiving the special for his work as Artistic Director at The Old Vic theatre, where he will step down this summer.
Other notable award winners included Angela Lansbury, who was awarded her first Olivier Award at the age of 89 for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in Blithe Spirit.
The 2015 Olivier Awards took place at the Royal Opera House tonight (Sunday April 12) and were hosted by Lenny Henry.
