Russell Crowe has said that he does not have Australian citizenship.
The 50-year-old, who was born in New Zealand but identifies himself as Australian, revealed that a loophole meant he was not able to have a passport for the country - despite living there since 1968.
In an interview with Radio Times, Crowe said: "They changed the law for New Zealanders and no matter how long you'd been in the country, if you weren't in Australia for the majority of 2000 to 2002 - when I was busy filming overseas - you can't become a citizen."
He continued: "As a kid, I handed out 'how to vote' cards to help elect the prime minister and was later voted one of Australia's 50 national treasures.
"I've even had my face on an Australian stamp - the only non-Australian to do so, apart from the Queen, of course. It's so, so... unreasonable."
The Water Diviner director had his application turned down, despite marrying an Australian citizen - actress Danielle Spencer - and having children in the country.
