Susanna Reid has denied that taking part in Strictly Come Dancing affected her romance with Dominic Cotton.

Reid, who recently split from long-time partner Cotton, told The Mirror that Strictly wasn't responsible for the breakdown of her relationship.

"I think people think Strictly was bound up in what happened. It wasn't. Strictly was, and will always be, an amazing sparkly ridiculous alternative reality planet I went on for a couple of months and I have great memories of it.

"Obviously things have been challenging in my personal life but we are getting things sorted," she added.

The 43-year-old, who recently moved from the BBC to host ITV's new breakfast show Good Morning Britain, said that she was still on good terms with Cotton for the sake of their three sons.

"We are still good friends and the kids come first," she said.

Reid will be joined on the new breakfast show by former GMTV host Ben Shephard, Sky Sunrise's Charlotte Hawkins and Sky Sports presenter Sean Fletcher.
