Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter has hit back at *NSYNC's Joey Fatone over recent comments he made about the rival boyband.

Carter said he was "disappointed" after Fatone suggested that the Backstreet Boys embarked on their recent tour because "they just needed the money".

In an interview with The Huffington Post, the *NSYNC singer said: "I feel like they just need the money.

"No offence, guys. But I'm saying, if you think about it, it's like, 'Why are you coming back out again?'"

Posting a link to the article on his Twitter page, Carter responded to Fatone's comments and said that the star had got it "all wrong".

He said: "Just disappointed, I really liked joey.
