The Olympic gold medallist became the first British men's singles champion at the tournament since Fred Perry in 1936, after beating the world number one in straight sets 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.
A sell-out crowd, including the likes of Bradley Cooper, Gerard Butler, David Cameron, Victoria Beckham and Ronnie Wood, were all at Centre Court to see Murray lift the trophy, and yet more reacted on Twitter to the long-awaited victory.
