Comedian and Taskmaster star Rhod Gilbert has celebrated getting his first clear cancer scan.

The star revealed in July 2022 that he was undergoing treatment for stage four cancer, and has given fans updates on his treatment since.

Speaking to the Radio Times about a scan earlier this year, Gilbert revealed that he learned that his cancer had not spread any further.

"I was back on the road earlier this year when I got a call to say my latest scan had shown the cancer was in the areas they knew about, but it wasn't in my lungs or my brain," he said.

"I told my consultant, 'This is the best day of my life'. If you'd told me that three months earlier… Well, everything becomes relative."

He then confirmed that a recent scan had come back clear, recalling: "The best thing was that the tumour had gone, and it was once again an ordinary blood vessel."

Gilbert went on to praise the support of his friends through this tough time, saying that they are "remarkable".

"They created a rota system to take me to and from hospital, which meant someone taking half a day out of their lives once every six weeks," he explained.

Speaking back in February this year, the comedian spoke about his treatment with Welsh cancer centre Velindre, which he had been serving in an ambassadorial role before he was diagnosed.

“I had to have chemotherapy sessions in a room with pictures of myself on the way in, grinning down at myself," he said on Stand Up to Cancer.

"My care has been faultless. My facial hair is coming back, my voice is back to normal. My weight and saliva glands are starting to come back."

Gilbert added: “My physical recovery goal is to lead the next fundraising trip to Morocco, to the highest point in North Africa in the Atlas Mountains. That's my goal.

"I’m a little way off that at the moment, but I am feeling optimistic and weirdly I'm feeling really happy and really positive – some would say there’s a first time for everything.”
