Waterloo Road's Neil Pearson and Hollyoaks legend Jeff Rawle's classic TV show Drop the Dead Donkey is returning as a live stage show.

Originally running from 1990 to 1998 on Channel 4, Drop the Dead Donkey parodied the TV news industry by chronicling the highs and lows of the GlobeLink news team as they faced changes from a corporate acquisition.

Editor George Dent (Rawle) and his team fought back against increasingly tabloid-y changes devised by the company's CEO Gus Hedges (Casualty's Robert Duncan) in order to chase ratings.

More than 30 years later, the Globelink News team have reunited for a stage production for the first time ever as they parody the modern 24-hour TV news format.

Pearson, Rawle and Duncan will be joined by fellow original cast members Susannah Doyle (Black Mirror), Ingrid Lacey (London's Burning) and Victoria Wicks (Glue).

Outnumbered writing duo Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin have penned the script for Drop the Dead Donkey: The Reawakening! to satirise "the underside of the broadcasting industry in all its riotous glory", according to a press release.
