Aquaman's Jason Momoa apologises for banned location photos

Aquaman star Jason Momoa has apologised to fans for taking photos in the Sistine Chapel, explaining that he would never intentionally "disrespect someone's culture".

Momoa – who was visiting Italy to film scenes for Fast X – has addressed the backlash he received for sharing images of the Vatican City chapel, including Michelangelo's fresco 'The Last Judgement', where photography is banned.

Explaining that he had "asked for permission" to take photographs, Jason said in an Instagram video that he was sorry if he had "offended" anyone.

"I found people wanted to take pictures with me, which is very odd on a trip to the Vatican. Looking at all this wonder and they want to take pictures with me – which I don't get – but regardless, I did," the actor began.

"So, I was very respectful and I asked for permission for, what I thought, would be okay. I would never want to do anything to disrespect someone's culture, so if I did, I apologise."

Jason went on to reveal that he "definitely paid to have that private moment" and had also given "a nice donation to the church" while visiting.

Addressing his Italian fans once more, he added: "I love you. I'm sorry if I offended you."

As well as shooting for his Fast and Furious debut, Jason Momoa is busy preparing for the impending release of Aquaman 2.

Revealing recently how The Lost Kingdom will differ to the first movie, Jason – who plays the King of Atlantis – hinted at a shift in tone.

"This time around, I feel like [we're] pulling out all the stops. We all learned something on the first one. It's exciting because I haven't made too many sequels. Even on the page, it was absolutely wonderful. There is so much going on," he said.

"I mean, I giggled reading it. There's a lot of fun. There's a lot more heart, there's a lot more risk."

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom currently has a release date of March 17, 2023.
