Prince looks on course to score a UK chart double this coming Friday, with the late singer's catalogue shooting up both the Official Singles and Album Charts.

Following his death on Thursday (April 21), fans have naturally flocked to buy many of his classic albums and singles.

According to early data from the Official Charts, the singer's hit 'Purple Rain' is leading the Official Singles, with four of his songs occupying the Top 5 slots, including 'When Doves Cry' (2), 'Kiss' (4) and '1999' (5).

If 'Purple Rain' tops the chart this week, it will beat its previous UK chart position of 8 after its original 1984 release, making it only Prince's second UK Number 1.

On the Official Albums Chart, Prince dominates 50 per cent of the Top 10, with The Very Best Of leading the pack.

Also charting are Ultimate (2), the soundtrack to Purple Rain (3), The Hits/The B-Sides (5) and Sign O' The Times (6).
