'Wonderwall' by Oasis is the ultimate British song, according to a poll conducted by Radio X.
Listeners to the music station cast more than 50,000 votes for the inaugural Best of British poll, which also saw the Manchester band dominate the top five with 'Don't Look Back in Anger' at two, 'Champagne Supernova' at three and 'Live Forever' at four.

The first non-Oasis track was The Stone Roses' 'I Am The Resurrection', charting fifth in a top ten heavy with Northern bands, with efforts from Arctic Monkeys and The Verve also in there.

A David Bowie double of 'Heroes' and 'Life On Mars?' placed at seven and eight, but spare a thought for The Beatles who could only get into the top 20 with 'Hey Jude' at 13 and 'A Day In The Life' at 19.
Radio X also revealed that DJ Chris Moyles backed Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida' in the poll, while Vernon Kay plumped for Sex Pistols' 'Anarchy in the UK'. The full top ten is as follows:
