Another week, another clutch of eclectic tracks you should get your lugholes round. It's mid-September and the big releases are starting to come through, including an epic return by Emeli Sandé, Calvin Harris's apparent response to his Taylor Swift break-up, and a shiny new disco number from Years & Years.

1. EMELI SANDÉ: 'Hurts'

It's been four long years since Emeli Sandé released a brand new single as a lead artist, so she needed to make a big statement. Well, if 'Hurts' isn't exactly that, then we don't know what would be. The singer sounds re-energised on the epic mid-tempo, with its peppy clap beat, surging strings and emotional lyric. All in all, it stands taller than her trademark quiff.

2. CALVIN HARRIS: 'My Way'

Yep, we all waited patiently for Calvin's response to his Taylor Swift break-up and it seems like his new single 'My Way' is just that. Of course he hasn't gone all out and namechecked the 1989 singer, but lines like "I made my move and it was all about you / Now I feel so far removed" certainly hint at the fallout. It's a good job that the bouncy, tropical chorus is light enough to diffuse all that tension.

3. YEARS & YEARS: 'Meteorite'

What to Read Next

If Bridget Jones normally conjures images of "absolutely enormous panties" and turkey curry buffets, Years & Years have done her a favour for the new film. The group have put their heads together and come up with a banger for the new film Bridget Jones's Baby. No more moping around, Bridge - it's time to head to the disco.

4. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE & ANNA KENDRICK: 'True Colors'

'True Colors' (they mean Colours) has been covered so many times, it must've bought Cyndi Lauper at least 15 holiday homes by now. But Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick's stripped-down rendition of the '80s classic is genuinely quite beautiful. Granted they're singing it as trolls for the new DreamWorks animation, but it's a masterclass in how, sometimes, simplicity is key.

5. JP COOPER: 'September Song'

It looks like summer is officially over, which means no more sun, no more festivals and no more summer bangers. It's okay though because JP Cooper is helping to remind us that there's still plenty more to look forward to with his tropical-tinged new track 'September Song'.

6. KEVIN SIMM: 'Wildfire'

When former Liberty X crooner Kevin Simm competed in The Voice UK earlier this year, he proved he has just a little bit more (sorry) to give yet. So much so that he only went and won the whole bloody competition. It's resulted in his new single 'Wildfire' - as well as a debut album called Recover - which hears him ditch the seductive electro-pop of his past, and embrace a new guitar-led, soulful sound.

7. JUSTICE: 'Randy'

We hadn't heard from French electro Gods and Ed Banger legends Justice for half a decade. Until now, that is. Gaspard and Xavier are back with a brand new album Woman, and taster track 'Randy' has gone all psychedelic disco. It's like a bulked up Tame Impala with Justice's signature touch, and it's making us very excited for the new album.

8. TINASHE: 'Company'

Tinashe has been sat frustratingly close to the cusp of properly breaking through for some time now, so there's little doubt she's hoping 'Company' will be the song to do just that. It's a sassy and sultry R&B groove with flourishes of video game electronics and thumps of bass. It's different enough from anything else out there at the moment that it might just strike through. Then Tinashe can level up at last.

9. SLAVES: 'People That You Meet'

Slaves are back and they've been knocking around in the studio with Beastie Boys legend Mike D for their next album. They've also roped in Wolf Alice drummer Joel Amey for new track 'People That You Meet' and it's more of their expert garage-punk and trademark couplets. "I walked into a sex shop/The lady had a beard/She talked me through the products/That's when it all got weird". Excellent.

10. WILEY: 'Can't Go Wrong'

Yes, yes we all know that grime is 'back' but last night that fact was finally acknowledged by the UK award circuit when Skepta picked up the Mercury Prize for his (exceptional) album Konnichiwa. Now fellow grime legend Wiley is about to release his new album Godfather and he shouts out the Mercury Prize winner ("Skepta that's my brother, that's my don") in album track 'Can't Go Wrong'.
