It's been a long time coming – six years, to be precise – but Gorillaz are finally back with their brand new album Humanz, and they've got some new tracks for you to listen to, too.

It was touch and go for a while, but the iconic virtual band are now officially back to deliver their latest album, which is due for release on April 28.

Have a listen to a six-minute epic film featuring new track 'Saturnz Barz', along with highlights of 'Ascension', 'Andromeda' and 'We Got The Power' below.

Appearing on MistaJam's show on BBC Radio 1 this evening (March 23), frontman Damon Albarn (or should we say 2D?) also revealed the unexpected inspiration behind their new release.

Admitting that the initial idea came from "a dark fantasy", Damon said the idea of "the weirdest, [most] unpredictable thing happening that changes everything about the world" was what inspired Humanz's sound.

So, what was that weird, unpredictable moment? Er, it was the election of Donald Trump.

"We were imagining the idea of Donald Trump," Damon admitted. "It's not about Donald Trump at all... but that was our dark fantasy."

Explaining that Humanz has "a weird, sort of darkness" about it, Damon also introduced the first plays of two tracks from the album: 'Andromeda' (featuring DRAM) and 'Saturnz Barz' (featuring Popcaan).

In other, equally unexpected news, Damon also revealed over on Radio X that former nemesis Noel Gallagher features on the song 'We Got The Power'.

Clearly over their '90s feud, Damon admitted it was "really great" to be working with Noel. "He's fantastic in the studio... it's nice when you see how someone goes about their business," he added.

If you can't wait until April to hear further material from Gorillaz, then why not pop down to the band's secret gig (!) tomorrow night (March 24), which will take place at a mystery location in London.

Information on tickets for the show can be found right here.

Gorillaz' Damon Albarn was speaking on the Radio X Evening Show with Gordon Smart, weekdays 7pm–10pm on Radio X. Tune in to Smart on Sunday with Gordon Smart this Sunday from 2pm on Radio X to hear more from Damon Albarn.
