After weeks of obsessing over the weather forecast, it's crunch time for Glastonbury-goers who are expecting a healthy amount of rainfall for this weekend's event.

At the end of the day, it's only a bit of water and it'll barely affect the electric atmosphere of the five-day music spectacular. It's not Glastonbury without the mud, right? Right.

But it's always good to be prepared, so we've pulled together nine tips to tackle the Glasto rain before the gates open on Wednesday (June 22).

1. CAMP AT THE TOP OF THE HILL

Without going into Newton's law of universal gravitation too much, when it pours with rain all the water will inevitably stream downhill. You can only imagine the swamp all the rainwater forms at the bottom. So basically, if you're getting there early to pitch a tent, make sure it's at the top of the hill.

2. A TENT WITH A PORCH

Glastonbury enforces a strict no gazebo policy, so we'd advise that for the terrible weather forecast, you at least make sure your tent has got a decent porch. You're going to need somewhere sheltered to keep your drenched clothes and muddy wellies so you don't end up drunkenly hugging them in your sleep.

3. PONCHO

Umbrellas at music festivals are by far one of the most annoying things. Why? Well try catching a glimpse of the stage when there's a canopy of multicoloured nylon taffeta around you. It's impossible. Also, holding an umbrella and a drink means limited movement to be able to dance. Our advice is to stock up on waterproof ponchos.

4. WATERPROOF PHONE CASE

You're going to want to get your phone out for photo opportunities, phone calls and most likely set times. Don't risk your device getting water damaged, because there won't be a single radiator in sight to try and dry it out on. Instead, make sure you have a waterproof phone case so you can Snapchat and Instagram even in the heaviest downpours.

5. WELLIES

Yes this is an obvious one, but still people think they can get away with just wearing an old pair of trainers or boots they don't mind getting wet. That's all good and fine, but the mud gets seriously sticky and surprisingly deep on Worthy Farm. Wellies will protect your feet and trousers, instead of you walking around with blocks of mud as footwear.

6. ALL THE SOCKS!

When it's forecast to rain, you can't pack too many spare pairs of socks. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday - take them all with you. They're going to get destroyed and when your wellies are damp enough as it is, popping on a fresh pair will instantly renew your sense of comfort.

7. BIN LINERS

Everything you take to Glastonbury is going to get drenched, so it's imperative that doesn't happen on the very first night. We'd advise packing plenty of bin liners so you can keep your damp clothes separate from your dry ones for as long as possible. You're also going to need plenty to wrap muddy wellies and boots in for the journey home too.

8. TOWELS

On a good sunny year, you'd only really need to take one towel if you're planning to shower at the festival. For the rain, though, we'd suggest more than a few. You're going to want to dry off before you sleep and it'll be difficult to air the towels afterwards. A rotation of towels will make you feel so much better.

9. COLLAPSIBLE CHAIRS

There's little chance you'll be sitting around at Glastonbury too much, but for those quiet moments in the morning when you want to take the weight off your soggy feet, a collapsable camping chair will be your soulmate. And if it really starts tipping it down, it could always be used as another form of shelter...

Muse, Adele and Coldplay will headline Glastonbury Festival 2016, with the main music programme kicking off on Friday (June 24) at 11am.
