Liam Payne may have just seriously stepped in it by admitting that fellow One Direction bandmate Harry Styles's solo debut isn't his "sort of music".

What to Read Next

Styles's first single 'Sign of the Times' is admittedly a radical departure from 1D's overtly-poppy classics, but it resonated enough with audiences to land him a UK No.1!

One person who isn't keen on 'Sign of the Times' seems to be Liam Payne, who praised Hazzah's creativity in a recent interview while also admitting the track is not his cup of tea.

"I'll be honest with you, it's not my sort of music," Liam told Music Choice. "It's not something I'd listen to, but I think he did a great job of doing what he wanted to do. That's the way I'd put it best, I think."

However, Liam was quick to clarify: "I think the funny thing is, [Harry] would say the same thing about me because he doesn't really listen to hip-hop music, whereas it's like my song's more [Tyga's] 'Rack City' and his song is more of a different era to something I'd listen to, I guess."

We don't think Liam's balanced critique technically counts as throwing shade, but some Directioners don't agree with us:

Liam's review might make for a slightly frosty atmosphere when One Direction finally do get back together — a prospect that Liam is definitely interested in pursuing down the line.

"I'd like to think there was one [final album]," he told KISS FM this week. "There deserves to be. There was an album that wasn't toured which I wrote half of.

"It deserves its time. We need to write another album and do some more tours."

Liam's brand new solo single 'Strip That Down' will definitely have its time when he promotes it on The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw on Friday (May 19) from 6.30am.
