Once the news broke that George Shelley had quit Union J, all the talk turned to an impending solo project from the X Factor star.

The 22-year-old Capital FM Breakfast Show presenter has been busy working on brand new material this year, and already has a fan in his co-host Dave Berry.

"I'm in the studio quite a lot," George told Digital Spy at the Capital Summertime Ball this past weekend. "Songwriting is a passion of mine, so I'm never going to stop doing music.

"I actually played Dave one of my songs the other day."

Dave added: "I sent George a song that some songwriter friends of mine had written to get his opinion, and George sent me one back.

George Shelley officially left Union J on March 3 this year, wanting to focus on his broadcasting and acting career for the immediate future.

It followed his high-profile appearance on ITV's I'm A Celebrity! Get Me Out Of Here back in November, where he finished runner-up after eventual winner Vicky Pattison.

The star also addressed rumours about his sexuality in an emotional YouTube video back in February, bravely telling fans that he isn't going to put a label on it.

"I've had girlfriends that I've loved and they've been amazing periods of my life," he said. "But I've also had boyfriends.

"And I just want you to know that whether I decide to be with a girl next or a guy next, it's because I love them and it shouldn't be a big deal."
