Launching a solo career after being in a highly successful boyband is no easy work. It comes with expectation, criticism and snobbery, not to mention adjusting to the spotlight on your own.
It's a transition that saw former JLS star Aston Merrygold go through a period of self-doubt when working on his debut album Showstopper.
However, when he finally hit upon his sound - which is perfectly executed in new single 'Get Stupid' - that confidence and new-found identity as a soloist clicked into place.
We caught up with the singer to talk about his nerves surrounding his new single, his hunger for future success, why he left Sony for Warner Music, and how he accepts he'll always be know as 'Aston from JLS'.
Aston's new single 'Get Stupid' is out in the UK today (July 24), while his full-length album will be released in October.
