David Duchovny has compared his upcoming debut album to the work of Wilco and REM.

The actor previously announced that he will live a "dream" by releasing his first-ever album of music Hell or Highwater on May 12.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, Duchovny opened up about venturing into the world of music.

"I sound like I'm bragging because I'm gonna tell you [Hell or Highwater sounds] like great sounds," he initially said, adding: "To me, it's like REM. It's like Wilco… It's in my dreams, of course, is these things."

Duchovny went on to acknowledge that he didn't consider himself a musician until recently.

"Music's been important to me, but I never was a musician until about four or five years ago," he explained. "I've been able to write songs. I love the album."
