The Greenpeace climbers hope to raise awareness of Shell's drilling practices in the Arctic.
Writing on their website which also features a live stream of the protest climb, the six women state:
"This building - modelled on a shard of ice - sits slap bang in the middle of Shell's three London headquarters.
"They don't want us talking about their plan to drill in the Arctic. We're here to shout about it from the rooftops. Join in by sharing this far and wide."

According to the BBC, the Met Police were called to the scene at 4.25am GMT and claimed the group accessed the building in Central London by climbing onto the roof of nearby London Bridge Station.
