Disney has finally released a new trailer for Mary Poppins Returns and it looks practically perfect in every way.

We got the first look at the magical sequel during this year's Oscars way back in March, but that only featured a brief glimpse of Emily Blunt's take on Mary Poppins near the end.

Thankfully, the new trailer has a whole lot more of Mary, as well as teasers for the music we'll be hearing, the movie's fantasy sequences and even the return of Dick van Dyke.

Last month, we got a sneak peek at one of the sequel's musical numbers as Mary danced through London's streets and Blunt has been enthusing about how the character is "just such fun to play".

She's also been speaking about how it's the perfect time for the magical nanny to return. "The world is fragile right now, and people need a film like this," she explained.

"It's incredibly hopeful. I didn't watch the original while shooting, but it's seared into my memory – this idea of her as this incredibly unsentimental character who swept into their lives and made it all right. I found a great comfort in that as a child."

Mary Poppins Returns takes place 20 years on from the magical nanny bidding farewell to the Banks children — and it's safe to say Jane and Michael's lives have been fairly crap ever since.

She arrives back on Cherry Tree Lane to brighten the fortunes of the now-grown Banks kids (Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw), and their own little ones, after a family tragedy.

Mary Poppins Returns will be opening on December 19 in US cinemas and on December 21 in the UK.
