Evil Dead Rise has unleashed its creepy first trailer ahead of the return of the Deadites to cinemas in April.
The new movie is expected to be a standalone outing, unconnected to either the original trilogy or the 2013 reboot. What's more, the action has been moved from a cabin in the woods to an LA apartment building.
It follows Beth (Lily Sullivan) whose overdue visit to her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) is interrupted by the discovery of a mysterious book – wonder what that could be – which gives rise to our favourite flesh-possession demons, the Deadites.

We were given a teaser of the first trailer yesterday (January 3) by Bruce Campbell, who played Ash Williams in the original films and also serves as an executive producer on the new movie.
"Even though I'm not in this film, as a producer I'm all over this movie like a cheap suit. I guess you could say, I have a hand in it," Campbell said, before promising fans that Evil Dead Rise will be "the scariest one yet".
What to Read Next
Along with the teaser, the excellent poster for Evil Dead Rise was also released with the chilling tagline, "Mommy loves you to death".
Campbell is executive producing the movie alongside Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi, with the new movie having been written and directed by Lee Cronin. Back in 2019, Cronin scored critical acclaim for The Hole in the Ground which premiered at Sundance.
The movie also stars Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Jayden Daniels, Gabrielle Echols, Billy Reynolds-McCarthy and Tai Wano. Originally set for a HBO Max release in the US, it will now get the big-screen treatment with a cinema release in April.
Evil Dead Rise is released in cinemas on April 21, 2023.
