Leighton Meester is the protagonist of Netflix's upcoming holiday thriller The Weekend Away.

An adaptation of a novel by Sarah Anderson, the film is fronted by the Gossip Girl star as Beth, a mother of one finally going on a well-deserved getaway to Croatia with her best friend Kate (Christina Wolfe).

The newly released trailer sees Beth waking up after a night out only to discover that Kate has gone missing. When Kate's body is recovered, Beth is accused of her friend's murder and will need to go to great lengths to prove her innocence, teaming up with local cab driver Zain (Ziad Bakri).

Not too dissimilar from Kaley Cuoco-starring The Flight Attendant, The Weekend Away sees its protagonist doubting her own sanity and piecing together her blurred memories of a terrible night resulting in a murder.

Prior to Kate's death, she and Beth have met two mysterious men in a club and shared a few drinks with them.

Further details, however, seem to suggest that the two women also spent the night with them, as Beth's uneasiness about what truly happened grows.

Meester has recently made a cameo in How I Met Your Father, a gender-flipped spin-off of beloved sitcom How I Met Your Mother.

The cast of the new series stars Hilary Duff as protagonist Sophie, whose adult version (played by Sex and the City's Kim Cattrall) tells her son the story of – you guessed it – how she met his father.

The Gossip Girl alumna briefly stars as Meredith, Sophie's friend Jesse's (Christopher Lowell) ex-girlfriend, who publicly rejects his marriage proposal in a video gone viral. Given the twisty nature of the show, it wouldn't be unlikely for Meredith to make a surprise comeback, perhaps right when Sophie and Jesse will finally get closer.

The Weekend Away premieres on Netflix on March 3.
