Netflix has released a powerful trailer for Ryan Murphy's gay conversion documentary Pray Away.
The movie is executive produced by the American Horror Story creator alongside Jason Blum and features interviews with survivors and ex-leaders of the world's largest gay conversion therapy organisation Exodus International, who open up about the devastating impact gay conversion therapy had on their own lives and the wider LGBTQ+ community.
Directed by Kristine Stolakis, the documentary also explores the movement's "legacy of profound harm".

At one poignant moment in the documentary, an interviewee refers to the gay conversion movement as "awful, pseudo psychology".
Another emotional contributor adds: "A voice inside me said, 'How could you do that to your own people?'"

Reviews for Pray Away so far have been glowing, with the film holding a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score at the time of writing this article. The Hollywood Reporter deemed it a "sobering account of Christian intervention rooted in toxic homophobia".
"While the documentary feels at times as though it is an excuse for past behaviour, it reaches into the depths of salvation, providing an understanding of why," said Film Inquiry.

Hollywood Chicago wrote: "Kristine Stolakis' film debut is a primer for pain/suffering that is totally unnecessary, if only humans could accept orientation in our fellow travellers and not live in fear."
"I am so proud of this documentary and our film team, and so grateful for every person who shared their story to make Pray Away possible," Stolakis said.
Pray Away will be available to stream on Netflix from August 3.
