Universal has released the first trailer for Richard Curtis and Danny Boyle's Yesterday, which marks the movie debut of former EastEnders star Himesh Patel.

Patel plays Jack Malik, a singer-songwriter whose career is transformed after he's hit by a bus and wakes up in a world where The Beatles don't exist. Fortunately, Jack remembers them, so he starts to become a global superstar by using classic songs by The Beatles.

Oh, and Ed Sheeran is along for the ride. If you're worried about that after his Game of Thrones cameo, Ed is playing himself and he seems game for some mocking, with the trailer ending on him suggesting changing 'Hey Jude' into 'Hey Dude'.

In a way, it's basically a remake of Goodnight Sweetheart as Gary always claimed credit in the past for popular songs, especially those by The Beatles.

There's also a slightly different US version of the trailer that showcases just how far Jack's career goes after performing Beatles songs, as well as an extended scene on James Corden's show that teases the appearance of two Beatles members.

With Boyle on directing duties and Curtis writing, Yesterday looks like it could be another big hit for a music-based movie, following Bohemian Rhapsody's huge success.

The movie also stars Lily James as the object of Jack's affection who is left behind when he becomes a superstar, while Joel Fry and Kate McKinnon also play key roles in Jack's rise to fame.

Having already had a movie role in Bridget Jones's Baby, Ed Sheeran told The AP last year about how this role in Yesterday saw him "actually kind of learn to act".

"I discover [Jack] and take him on tour. Then he gets much, much bigger than me through doing stuff. Yeah, it's very clever," he added.

Yesterday is set for release in cinemas on June 28.
