Sam Smith has been causing controversy by claiming he is one of the first openly gay men to win an Oscar.
The 'Writing's on the Wall' singer won the award for Best Original Song last night, but previous Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black took issue with his acceptance speech - and told him to stop texting his fiancé Tom Daley.

"I read an article a few months ago by Sir Ian McKellen and he said no openly gay man had won an Oscar," Smith said during his speech, forgetting that Black won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in 2009, while Sir John Gielgud and Pedro Almodóvar have also picked up statuettes.
Sir Elton John also won the very same award as Smith in 1994, while other openly gay winners have thanked their partners on stage while accepting their accolades.
