Alicia Vikander has won Best Supporting Actress at the 2016 Academy Awards for her role in The Danish Girl.

JK Simmons, who won Best Supporting Actor for Whiplash last year, presented the award to the star who perhaps should have been nominated for Best Actress.

"Wow, thank you so much the Academy for this incredible recognition," she said.

"I share this with our fabulous crew and cast. Gail and Ann and Nina and Working Title and Focus and Tom - where are you my director? Thank you so much for your support and belief in me."

"My best acting partner, you raised my game," she said.
