ITV has announced it is the new UK home of the Oscars.

The broadcaster confirmed today it has obtained the UK rights to air the Oscars ceremony, a month after it was reported that Sky Cinema had forgone the rights, after 20 years of coverage.

ITV will exclusively broadcast and stream next year's Academy Awards on ITV1 and ITVX on March 10, 2024. All future Oscars award coverage will also run across ITVX's social channels and the network's news and magazines shows.

The broadcaster landed the rights to the prestigious awards ceremony after signing a new multi-year deal with Disney Entertainment.

"We are thrilled to be able to exclusively bring the Oscars to film fans all across the UK, furthering and complementing our commitment to films across our network," said Darren Nartey, Senior Acquisitions Manager for ITV and ITVX.

Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, similarly revealed that the Academy "could not be happier to partner with ITV" in wake of the new deal.

Historically, Oscars coverage has always swapped between the BBC and Sky. But over the last two decades, it was Sky that has provided UK audiences with access to the famous awards ceremony via the dedicated Sky Cinema Oscars channel.

The 2024 Oscars ceremony will mark the first time ITV has broadcast the prestigious event.

The 2023 Oscars ceremony proved to be one for the history books as Everything Everywhere All at Once walked away with seven awards out of 11 nominations. Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan picked up the gongs for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor respectively.

The 96th Oscars will air exclusively on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK on March 10, 2024.
