The Oscars had announced the first six presenters for the 94th Academy Awards at the beginning of the month (March 3) which also included Kevin Costner, Youn Yuh-jung, Rosie Perez and Chris Rock alongside Kravitz and Gaga.

Speaking about the goal of the awards show this year, Oscars producer Will Packer began by saying: "Movies inspire us, entertain us and unite us across the globe.

"That's the precise goal of the show this year, and we're thrilled to welcome the first of a stellar lineup joining the Oscars stage to help us celebrate the power of film and honour the year's best in filmmaking."

Last year, the ceremony went without a host in what the Academy called an 'ensemble' format. The Oscars 2022, however, will see Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Regina Hall host with additional presenters to be announced in due course.

Recently, the Oscars faced backlash from the film community after confirming it will not televise eight of the 23 award categories this year.

The Best Documentary Short, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Animated Short, Best Live-Action Short and Best Sound awards will be bestowed before live transmission this year.

Addressing the decision at the time, Academy president David Rubin wrote in a letter to members: "After carefully listening to feedback and suggestions from our film community, our network partner, and all those who love the Oscars, it was evident we needed to make some decisions about the broadcast that are in the best interest of the future of our show and our organisation.

"We realise these kinds of changes can prompt concern about equity, and we ask you to understand our goal has been to find a balance in which nominees, winners, members and viewing audience all have a rewarding show experience.

"Moving forward we will assess this change and will continue to look for additional ways to make our show more entertaining and more thrilling for all involved, inside the Dolby Theatre and watching from home," the letter concluded.

The 94th Academy Awards take place on Sunday, March 27 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
