Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones has responded to the stereotyping race row sparked by the film's recent trailer.

Many people have hit out at the casting of the film, which sees Jones play a black character who relies on "street smarts", while the white characters played by Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Melissa McCarthy are all educated scientists.

Jones addressed the criticism in a long series of Tweets, saying: "Why can't a regular person be a ghostbuster?"

She added: "Im confused. And why can't I be the one who plays them i am a performer. Just go see the movie!"
