1Brant von Hoffman (Kyle Blankes, two movies)
Youtube/ Novidades Cinema//Warner Bros.Blankes should have known better than to spy on the new recruits, as he became the butt of their jokes in the first and third Police Academy films. In between those movies, von Hoffman starred in Rustler's Rhapsody with Tom Berenger and – aside from a few other bit parts – appeared in four episodes of Baywatch Nights, but hasn't acted since 2004.
2Bubba Smith (Moses Hightower, six movies)
Getty Images//Warner Bros.Charles Aaron "Bubba" Smith turned guest appearances on primetime shows such as Wonder Woman and Charlie's Angels into a starring role in Police Academy, appearing in all but one of the numerous sequels as softly spoken police officer Moses Hightower. The 6ft 7in NFL star used his height to great advantage in this and many follow-on roles but sadly died in 2011 aged 66, from drug intoxication.

3Bruce Mahler (Doug Fackler, three movies)
Sony Pictures//Warner Bros.Accident-prone cadet Fackler dropped from the series following Police Academy 3: Back in Training and took time off from full-time acting to raise his family and breed champion border terriers. He popped up in a recurring role as a rabbi in Seinfeld but his last two performances, in 2000, were uncredited appearances in Scary Movie and The Perfect Storm.
4Donovan Scott (Leslie Barbara, one movie)
Warner Bros.Despite having roles in Popeye and The Incredible Shrinking Woman already under his belt, Scott was still probably best known before Police Academy as 'Guy getting powdered by Olivia' in the music video for Physical. Since playing the wimpy cadet who eventually kicks ass during a riot, he's specialised in playing Santa Claus and many of his roles from 2007-2017 (including everything from TV movie Matchmaker Santa to an appearance on Days of Our Lives) have been as jolly Saint Nick.

5David Graf (Tackleberry, seven movies)
ParamountGraf first broke into the movies shortly before his turn as the gun-toting cadet Tackleberry with Four Friends in 1981. A stalwart of the Police Academy films, appearing in all seven outings, he has the distinction of being in both the first and last scenes of the series. Continuing to act throughout his lifetime, he died suddenly of a heart attack at a family wedding in 2001. His funeral was attended by all the main cast members from the Police Academy movies.
6George Gaynes (Commandant Eric Lassard, seven movies)
Warner Bros.Already a very familiar face having played soap actor John Van Horn in the 1982 smash hit comedy Tootsie, and being cast as Punky Brewster's dad in the same year Police Academy hit cinemas, Gaynes appeared in all of the comedy cop films and even guest starred in an episode of Police Academy: The Series in 1998. He first started acting in NBC Television Opera Theatre in 1955 and his final role was in the Ashton Kutcher/Brittany Murphy rom-com Just Married in 2003 (with an honourable mention for his turn as a professor in Roger Corman's unreleased Fantastic Four movie). He sadly died in February 2016, at the age of 98.

7Bobcat Goldthwait (Zed McGlunk, three movies)
Getty Images//Warner Bros.A 2010 statement from Goldthwait urged Hollywood to reboot the Police Academy series using a new set of actors, instead of the original cast members, confirming he had no desire to return. Given that he's one of the most active members of the Police Academy team on other projects, that's no surprise. He continued to do stand-up in a number of specials, wrote and directed movies and television series (including pitch-black comedies Sleeping Dogs Lie, World's Greatest Dad and God Bless America, as well as the Bigfoot horror film Willow Creek). His anthology TV series Bobcat Goldthwait's Misfits & Monsters premieres in 2018.
8GW Bailey (Captain Harris, seven movies)
Getty Images//Warner Bros.Part of the reason the slapstick, juvenile humour of the Police Academy series worked so well is George William Bailey's turn as uptight Captain Harris, who was the butt of many of the jokes. Falling into TV movies as the comedy franchise wound down, his career eventually found a new lease of life through more law enforcement work as Lieutenant Louie of LAPD's Major Crimes Division on The Closer and its spin-off Major Crimes.

9Kim Cattrall (Karen Thompson, one movie)
Getty ImagesIt might be a surprise that Kim Cattrall was in Police Academy but then she did drop out after one movie, so doesn't have the same recall factor of the franchise's other stars. Since her turn as Cadet Karen Thompson she's had notable film roles in Asian fantasy Big Trouble in Little China, Egyptian witchcraft rom-com Mannequin and as a Vulcan in Star Trek VI, showing she doesn't like to be typecast. But it's as Samantha Jones in smash hit HBO series Sex and the City that she became world famous. Since 2010 she's shied away from movies, preferring to appear in TV productions such as Sensitive Skin, Witness for the Prosecution and Modus.
10Leslie Easterbrook (Sgt. Debbie Callahan, six movies)
Getty ImagesRecently making a bigger comeback in Rob Zombie's horror movies, Easterbrook was an actress before the Police Academy series and continued after. Upcoming thriller Vendetta reunites her with Police Academy co-star Marion Ramsey, but to see a larger get-together, check out low-budget horror Lavalantula, which cleverly casts the familiar faces of Ramsey, Michael Winslow, Steve Guttenberg and Easterbrook.

11Marion Ramsey (Laverne Hooks, six movies)
Getty Images//Warner Bros.Talented singer Marion Ramsey turned regular roles on the comedy/variety TV series Keep on Truckin' and Cos into an appearance as quiet-speaking/LOUD-SHOUTING cadet Laverne Hooks. Ramsey continued to act, including a recurring role on the '90s Addams Family TV show and in the low-budget horror Lavalantula.
12Michael Winslow (Larvelle Jones, seven movies)
Getty Images//Warner Bros. Also known as the "Man of 10,000 Sound Effects" for his ability to make realistic sounds using only his voice, Winslow was already very familiar to the audience of The Gong Show talent TV series. He became the main star of the Police Academy series after Steve Guttenberg departed, appearing in all seven movies and playing the only recurring role on the 1997 live-action Police Academy TV show (although several others made guest appearances). He was also one of three former Police Academy actors who returned for the Lavalantula sequel 2 Lava 2 Lantula! (the others being Guttenburg and Ramsey). He's continued his voice acting work on video games such as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and animated movie The Trumpet of the Swan, while also starring in live action films such as Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! and comedy Killing Hasselhoff.

13Steve Guttenberg (Mahoney, four movies)
Getty ImagesBowing out after the fourth Police Academy movie Citizens on Patrol, Guttenberg's role as arch prankster Mahoney was simply rewritten for another actor. Not that he minded. A huge star during the '80s, he followed up Police Academy with the triple whammy of Cocoon, Short Circuit and Three Men and a Baby. The '90s saw him tread the boards in the theatre, appearing in Furthest From the Sun (directed and co-authored by Woody Harrelson, no less), as well as shoot a few disappointing action films and a movie (Tower of Terror) based on a Walt Disney theme park ride. The '00s saw him tackle his first film as director (P.S. Your Cat Is Dead), and outside a few minor roles and a TV remake of The Poseidon Adventure, his biggest screen time came in talent show Dancing with the Stars in 2008. He's one of the stars already championing a new Police Academy movie, which he says he'd be happy to appear in.
