All the major franchises that Disney now owns after buying Fox – Alien, The Simpsons, Avatar and more

Disney just made a deal to buy the best part of 21st Century Fox for a colossal $52.4 billion. The deal included its TV and film production arms and so transferred the rights to several massive franchises across to Disney (as well as Fox's huge back catalogue). Disney is now an entertainment behemoth bigger than any the world has seen before. But what exactly do they own, and what could it mean for future films? We've broken it down for you franchise by franchise.

The current trilogy is complete, but there have been "discussions" about future films. Andy Serkis is apparently considering a return so we could well see more Apes movies from the Mouse House, particularly given how well liked Matt Reeves' movies were.

Ice Age

Ice Age

Disney will inherit all of Fox Animation, which includes the highly profitable Ice Age series. The animation arm currently has 16 movies on its development slate, two of which are currently in pre-production. Spies in Disguise features the voices of Will Smith and Tom Holland, and Ron's Gone Wrong comes from Kung Fu Panda director Alessandro Carloni and The Good Dinosaur story artist Jean-Philippe Vine.

Ridley Scott had plans for more Alien movies following Covenant but recently suggested the franchise may have run its course. But that was before Disney got its paws on it. We wouldn't be hugely surprised to see an Alien resurrection before too long.

Fox also passes the Predator franchise to Disney. There's a new instalment directed by Shane Black due out in 2018 called The Predator – what happens to the franchise moving forward will no doubt depend on how it's received. *Please no more Alien vs Predator films*.

Kingsman

Director Matthew Vaughn thinks the third <i data-redactor-tag=\i\">Kingsman movie might be the trilogy closer

This spy spoof series based on a comic by Mark Millar has a third part in the works being developed by Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman. This franchise has a hard-R rating and isn't exactly 'classic Disney' so it'll be very interesting to see what they do with it. Maybe a Kingsman/Deadpool crossover, who knows?
