He's been staunchly (and rather frustratingly) tight-lipped about his upcoming portrayal of Bruce Wayne.
But Ben Affleck couldn't fend off media questioning forever.
As we draw closer to the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Affleck's first outing as the Caped Crusader, he laid to rest some of our most burning questions.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the Oscar-winning director of Argo discussed his approach to the role - and the distinct lack of one key DC Comic character. Robin.
That's right, Batman's resident sidekick and underdog, who forever walked in the shadow of his masked mentor, will not be making an appearance in the upcoming film. In fact, he's already dead.
We will learn that Robin did once exist, but - alas - will not see the light of day again.
What to Read Next
"Bruce is bitterly disappointed in the past that he's lost this guy who fought by his side," Affleck said. "That character's death must have been devastating to him, and he's suffered. We get the sense that he's suffered a lot of devastating losses before this movie even starts."
Affleck went on to gush about how "psyched" he was to work with his Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio, as well as mapping out the new Batman's journey with director Zack Snyder, moving him on from the Christopher Nolan trilogy.
And how Affleck himself approached the iconic role?
He said: "What I wanted was to create a Batman that was sort of at the end of his rope physically and psychologically and emotionally, who was beaten down by the world, who was a little bit more of a slugger, who has more grey in his hair and who was questioning whether the whole journey that he lived as Batman was in fact even worth it."
Hardly sounds like a barrel of laughs. Where's The Joker when you need him?
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is released March 25.
