Back in 1998, The Faculty tapped into the belief that everyone has had at one point during their time in education: all teachers are actually aliens.
The sci-fi horror was written by Scream's Kevin Williamson and directed by Robert Rodriguez. While it wasn't a huge box-office smash, it's since gone on to become a cult hit and kickstarted the careers of its young cast.
So to mark the upcoming 20-year anniversary of The Faculty, we thought we'd take a look back at the cast and see what they've been up to in the two decades since. (TL;DR? Not ageing.)
Elijah Wood – Casey Connor
Shortly after The Faculty, Elijah Wood went on to star in a little-known trilogy called The Lord of the Rings as Frodo Baggins.
Consistent movie and TV work has followed in the likes of Sin City, Maniac (the horror remake, not the Netflix series), Happy Feet, Wilfred and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, while Wood has also started to work behind the scenes.
In 2010, he co-founded SpectreVision with Daniel Noah and Josh C Waller, which specialises in genre movies and, specifically, horror. They've made the likes of Cooties, The Boy and Mandy, and have also made their first video game with psychological thriller Transference.
What to Read Next
Josh Hartnett – Zeke Tyler
Alongside Halloween H20, The Faculty marked one of Josh Hartnett's earliest roles and he seemed to be the Next Big Thing, starring in the likes of Pearl Harbour and Black Hawk Down.
But it's fair to say that Hartnett's career didn't quite take off like it was expected. Arguably that was partly due to movie choices like Hollywood Homicide and The Black Dahlia, but he also turned down the chance to be Superman. Really.
Recent years has seen a bit of a career resurgence with a well-received lead role in Penny Dreadful, although major movie roles are currently still eluding him.
Clea DuVall – Stokely 'Stokes' Mitchell
Much like Elijah Wood, Clea DuVall has had consistent work since breaking through with The Faculty, with notable movies roles including But I'm A Cheerleader, Girl, Interrupted, The Grudge and Argo.
She's also made an impact on the small screen with recurring roles in Carnivale, Heroes, American Horror Story: Asylum, Veep and The Lizzie Borden Chronicles.
In 2016, DuVall made the move into directing with comedy-drama The Intervention which she also wrote and starred in, alongside Natasha Lyonne, Jason Ritter, Ben Schwartz and Cobie Smulders.
Jordana Brewster – Delilah Profitt
The Faculty marked Jordana Brewster's movie debut after more than 100 episodes in soap opera As the World Turns.
Since then, Brewster's biggest role has come via the Fast & Furious franchise as Mia Toretto, appearing in five of the eight outings to date. After skipping Fast & Furious 8, Brewster will be back in Fast & Furious 9 – or whatever it ends up being called.
She's also had long-running roles on TV in the Dallas revival, the first season of American Crime Story and can currently be seen in Lethal Weapon as Dr Maureen Cahill.
Laura Harris – Marybeth Louise Hutchinson
Laura Harris didn't quite manage to break through like her co-stars, but did have recurring roles in 24 and Dead Like Me shortly after The Faculty in the early 2000s.
It's mainly been minor roles since in movies including Severance and A Mighty Wind, as well as TV shows like Stargate Atlantis, CSI and Warehouse 13, with her last movie appearance coming in 2014 comedy Preggoland.
Shawn Hatosy – Stan Rosado
While he's had big movie roles in Alpha Dog and Public Enemies, Shawn Hatosy's career has largely been TV-based since The Faculty.
After guest appearances in ER, Felicity and Six Feet Under, Hatosy landed a main role in critically acclaimed crime drama Southland, following it up with recurring roles in Fear the Walking Dead and Flaked. He can currently be seen in Animal Kingdom, an adaptation of the 2010 Australian movie of the same name.
Robert Patrick – Coach Joe Willis
Soon after The Faculty, Terminator 2's Robert Patrick played Special Agent John Doggett in The X-Files and has had numerous movie and TV roles since.
From TV roles in The Unit, Scorpion and Sons of Anarchy to movie roles in Spy Kids, Walk the Line and Gangster Squad, you'll probably have seen Patrick on screen somewhere, likely in a slightly shady, not-sure-you-can-trust-him role. He'll soon be seen in Steven Soderbergh drama The Laundromat.
Famke Janssen – Miss Elizabeth Burke
Before The Faculty, Famke Janssen was best known as Xenia Onatopp in GoldenEye and after The Faculty, she's now more known as Jean Grey in the original X-Men trilogy.
Janssen's other roles haven't quite had as much impact, although she did appear in the Taken trilogy and had a lead role in Netflix's second-ever Original show, Hemlock Grove. She'll be returning to Netflix for miniseries Central Park Five next year.
Salma Hayek – Nurse Rosa Harper
The Faculty saw Salma Hayek reunite with Desperado and From Dusk Till Dawn director Robert Rodriguez, with her most-celebrated movie role coming a few years later in Frida Kahlo biopic Frida.
It's mainly been a succession of (generally quite dodgy) comedies since, like Grown Ups (and its sequel), Here Comes the Boom and The Hitman's Bodyguard, although she did executive produce and star in TV hit Ugly Betty.
Jon Stewart – Mr Edward Furlong
After The Faculty, Jon Stewart was mainly seen hosting The Daily Show from 1999 to 2015, although he did have cameo roles (as himself) in Batman v Superman and Evan Almighty. In 2014, he wrote and directed Rosewater, marking his directorial debut.
Bebe Neuwirth – Principal Valerie Drake
Cheers and Frasier star Bebe Neuwirth hasn't done too many movies since The Faculty, but she has played Velma Kelly, Roxie Hart AND 'Mama' Morton in stage productions of Chicago. Most recently, she had recurring roles in never-ending police procedural Blue Bloods and Madam Secretary.
Piper Laurie – Karen Olson
The Faculty recruited a horror icon in Carrie and Twin Peaks star Piper Laurie and while she received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017, she's not planning on retiring anytime soon. Laurie will next be seen alongside Matthew McConaughey in crime biopic White Boy Rick and also popped up in an episode of MacGyver this year.
Usher – Gabe Santora
Yes, that Usher. The Faculty marked his first movie role, but obviously he's been better known for his music career since, with his most recent solo album released in 2016. He's kept popping up on the big screen though in the likes of Killers, Scary Movie 5 and, most recently, as Frozone's valet in Incredibles 2.
