Armie Hammer has confirmed that a Call Me by Your Name sequel really could happen.
Director Luca Guadagnino talked about the prospect of a sequel before the Oscar-nominated film was even released.
In an interview with Vulture, Guadagnino said that at the movie's premiere at Sundance Film Festival he began thinking about continuing the characters' story.
"I didn't completely realise until then that they were characters who could go beyond the boundaries of the film," he explained.
Guadagnino later said that he envisions the film taking place at different stages in the characters' lives.
'The novel has 40 pages at the end that goes through the next 20 years of the lives of Elio and Oliver, so there is some sort of indication through the intention of author André Aciman that the story can continue," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
What to Read Next
Now Armie Hammer, who plays Oliver in the coming-of-age romance set in Italy, says the wheels are already in motion.
"It will happen because there are already people working on it and trying to make it happen," he told Variety.
"How much do I know and how much could I tell you are two very different things. I know a lot, but I can't tell you anything."
The sequel will reportedly take place in the early '90s, about five years after the initial time period, and will touch on the AIDS epidemic.
