Avengers: Infinity War's depiction of Thanos pleased Marvel fans around the world when the blockbuster movie was released earlier this year, but there was a quibble some people had.

If Thanos (Josh Brolin) was so powerful, how come he didn't go for the Infinity Stones sooner? Why did he wait this long before finally taking action?

The answer is actually pretty straightforward and was revealed in the commentary included in the digital download release of the movie.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely provide the commentary, and they revealed that Thanos chose to wait because he had no idea about the location of the Soul Stone (via io9).

Thanos began hunting down the Infinity Stones with urgency once he heard from Nebula that Gamora knew the answer.

Two Thanos-related deleted scenes for Avengers: Infinity War were released recently. One showed a heart-to-heart between Thanos and Gamora (Zoe Saldana), while the other focused on the Guardians after Gamora was snatched from Knowhere by the Big Bad.

The home release also answered another long-standing question: why did the Hulk refuse to fight?

Avengers: Infinity War will be released as a digital download on August 20 and on DVD and Blu-ray on September 3.
