The release date for Crazy Rich Asians is still some four months away, but Warner Bros. Pictures has done everyone a solid by rolling out the first teaser from the movie.

What to Read Next

The film, based on Kevin Kwan's 2013 book of the same name, tells the story of Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), an American-born NYU economics professor who travels to Singapore with her fellow professor boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding) for his friend's wedding.

Little does she know, Nick and his family are in fact extremely loaded and what's worse — his mum Eleanor (Michelle Yeoh) immediately has reservations about his American girlfriend. (Kwan released two more books for the franchise, China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems, in 2015 and 2017, respectively.)

Directed by Jon M. Chu, Crazy Rich Asians also stars Gemma Chan (Humans), Ken Jeong, comedian Ronny Chieng, Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), and Awkwafina, who plays Rachel's college BFF who lives in Singapore.

Crazy Rich Asians opens on August 17. The full trailer arrives Monday.
