Saoirse Ronan has shared a fun story about how a recent surprise appearance at a Lady Bird cinema screening proved to be quite embarrassing.
The Irish actress has earned huge acclaim for her portrayal of a disaffected Sacramento teen in director Greta Gerwig's coming-of-age comedy, including a Best Actress Oscar nomination.
And yet, she's not even recognised at screenings of her own movie Lady Bird. On The Graham Norton Show on Friday (February 9), Saoirse shared a story about how a recent outing with her mum went awry.
"My mam is very proud of me and I wanted her to see the film as part of a real audience so we went to an afternoon performance in LA," she told Graham.
"I thought it would be sold out and warned her to keep her head down so we weren't recognised. When we got in there, there were six other people… all on their phones! No one was interested in us at all!"
That aloof reaction was similar to the way Saoirse responded a few weeks ago when she found out she'd be competing with Margot Robbie, Sally Hawkins, Frances McDormand and the legendary Meryl Streep at the Oscars.

"I'd actually forgotten that [the nominations were coming out] – it had gone completely out of my head," she admitted.
Getting an Oscar nomination isn't exactly new territory for Saoirse anyway. At age 23, she's already been nominated twice before for Atonement and Brooklyn.
The Graham Norton Show continues next Friday (February 16) at 10.35pm on BBC One with a trio of fellow Oscar nominees, Margot Robbie, Allison Janney and Daniel Kaluuya, as well as Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander and Camila Cabello.
