As Disney prepares to give us a Mary Poppins sequel some 54 years after the practically perfect nanny cemented a place in movie history, it sounds like lead actress Emily Blunt is worried about her harshest critics.
It might take more than a spoonful of sugar to help this medicine go down for some die-hard fans of the Julie Andrews era, but it seems that Blunt is more concerned about someone closer to home.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Blunt said she's been wondering what her daughter will think of Mary Poppins Returns.
"I have a deep dread she is simply going to reject my version," confessed 34-year-old Blunt.
Explaining that the 3-year-old loves the original, she continued: "[I'm scared she'll] be, like, 'You are not Mary Poppins', because she is so in love with Julie Andrews and she knows every single song."
With Returns heading for a Christmas 2018 release date, Mary Poppins has already had somewhat of a boost thanks to a nod in last year's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2.
What to Read Next
The movie will see Dick Van Dyke return (although not as Bert), but there will be no cameo for Andrews in Rob Marshall's movie – she has already ruled out any part in Returns.
Instead, it will be down to new cast members like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer to give fans a continuation worthy of the first film.
