Marvel are getting better when it comes to diversity, with both Captain Marvel and Black Panther in the works. But an explicitly LGBTQ+ character is still yet to feature on screen in the MCU.
Well,Thor: Ragnarok does feature bisexual character Valkyrie, not that you'd know it by watching the film (hence the 'explicitly').
"There were things that we talked about that we allowed to exist in the characterisation, but maybe not be explicit in the film," actress Tessa Thompson told Rolling Stone.

The comics version of Valkyrie is in a relationship with a woman named Annabelle, and while that probably wouldn't have worked in the film, Thompson filmed a scene of a female lover walking out of Valkyrie's bedroom.
Unfortunately, the moment was filmed but had to be cut because, as the publication states, "it distracted from the scene's vital exposition". Hmmmm...

Still, Thompson kept that aspect of the character in her mind, adding: "There's a great shot of me falling back from one of my sisters who's just been slain. In my mind, that was my lover."
Valkyrie is rumoured to make a return in Avengers: Infinity War, and Thompson hopes that her character's bisexuality will be explored in some point.
Thor: Ragnarok is out in cinemas now in the UK, and will be released on November 3 in the US. You can read our review here and watch us chat to the stars below:
